How To Memorize Scriptures
The passwords that we create for email, Facebook, bank accounts, Twitter, etc. all need to have a certain amount of letters, one capitalized letter, and a number or two as well. In order to achieve an easy to remember password, as well as one that will not be easily predicted or guessed by others, I simply use a verse of scripture as my password.
At first I started using my favorite verses or chapters, for example ‘Mosiah217′ as in Mosiah, chapter 2, verse 17. Using a password like this fulfills all the requirements mentioned above ‘ capitalized letter, certain amount of characters and a number or two. Read more on How To Memorize Scriptures
Thank you so much for sharing your system in so much detail Andrea. It is encouraging and inspiring. I have a question for you and any other readers…what method of memorisation have you found most effective for the younger group..
say 7 and under. I have found that my eldest (10yrs) has so much more capacity to memorise scripture than do my younger ones. So I find it hard to work with them all at the same time on memorisation because the younger ones take forever to learn the verse while the eldest is held back. The only solution I have been able to find is to let my eldest go into her room and work on her memorisation at her own pace. Then test her at the dinner table. And if I’m honest about it, I’ve just plain given up on the younger ones thinking they will just have to begin scripture memorisation once they mature and their capacity for rote memorisation improves. I’ve searched and searched for uplifting scripture memory songs. We have tried LDS Scripture Rock but feel that the music is contrary to the beautiful messages contained in the scriptures. We have tried downloading the Sons of Helaman scripture mastery songs but they appear to download and then don’t play for us on our computer. I personally knew a lady back in New Zealand (where I’m from) who was musical and made her own scripture mastery songs to a simple acoustic guitar and I found them to be touching and conducive to the spirit but I have tried emailing just about every member of her family whom’s address I can track down and can’t seem to get a response on the issue. I have even tried to make up my own tunes but the kids just laugh at them and besides I forget the tune myself by the next day. lol It saddens me, as I feel like we are missing establishing something powerful and beautiful in our young children’s lives. So if anyone has any ideas that have worked with young ones I would gladly welcome your advice. Thanks.

I am very surprised at the progress I am making with the Topical Memory System. Memorizing information has never been my strong point, but I am actually able to do it with this program. I highly recommend this program to others.
It is very easy to jump into and start building your own scripture reservoir. Once I started learning, I found myself repeating scriptures while scrambling eggs or vacuuming. Anyone serious about Bible study should absolutely invest in this program.
However, I am certain that the Lord is trying to teach me that I must be intentional. I must intentionally set my alarm and make myself get up before the boys so I can spend some time with Jesus. It affects everything.
I must intentionally find ways to let Mark know he is my priority and I love him even with so many other things demanding my attention. I must intentionally make the time to teach the boys How To Memorize Scriptures and intentionally seek the Lord as to which verses we need to be currently focusing on. I need to intentionally set a menu and preplan a time to grocery shop so our week is not thrown into chaos. I must parent intentionally. This is the job laid before me and I desperately and intentionally want to do it well:) For an audience of One.
“I was convicted to challenge you further to Memorize scripture last week, but many people think they can’t Memorize, or that they can’t remember anymore. If you aren’t just using those feelings as an excuse not to try, I would share a few suggestions from my own experience that could help you” From my own personal experiences, I believe that people use these things as excuses, especially older people (25-30 on up). We forget that we are the first-fruits of redemption, and a foretaste of what is to come.
